I have spoken with a lot of people who have experienced a loss of some kind or who are facing a serious challenge.  The passing of a loved one or losing a spouse through divorce.  The loss of their job.  An unexpected and unnerving medical diagnosis.  Being in the middle of a situation and thinking “can I do this?”.  All have utilized one common thing to manage their situation. Faith.

One of the definitions that the Merriam-Webster dictionary uses for faith is the firm belief in something for which there is no proof.  It also states that faith is something that is believed especially with strong conviction.Oxford Languages defines faith as complete trust or confidence in someone or something.

The Biblical definition of faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. As a Christian and Jesus-follower, I could go on all day about the benefits and necessity of a spiritual faith…but I won’t here.

When I was diagnosed with hereditary spastic paraparesis (HSP) and as I continue to manage my decrease in mobility and the accompanying challenges, my faith gets me through the tough times.  Be intentional and increase your faith.  It helps.

***Forgive the shameless plug, but my book “Bumps, Potholes & Opportunities” describes the tactics and mindset—including faith—that people have successfully used to get through some very challenging situations.
